Finally, a new post

So I'm back. I thought about waiting until June 8th so that it would officially be 5 months since my last post, but I'll forget about blogging again by then so I'd better do it now while I still remember. Life is busy and hectic but being married is pretty much amazing. But only because I'm with the man that God intended for me! Definitely worth the wait. Today is our 3 month anniversary. We napped together after church to celebrate. The amazing and exciting life of a newly married couple revealed. Scott had to work so that threw a wrench in any plans we might have made.

To catch you up to speed a little, we're coaching our church's softball team during the summer season. We're 1-2 right now but are coming together as a team so that's a positive. Scott still works a random schedule and I have been too lately. I've been doing lots of programs for schools and camps that require some overnight travel or long days, which isn't too exciting. I love the programs and the kids but hate to be away at all when our marriage is so new. So the two of us are pretty good at planning time for just us as much as we can. And I'm still trying to decide on which wedding pictures to order, what colors to paint the house, and how we can get rid of two couches and a dining room table set that are taking up space in our basement and shed. Let me know if you know anyone wants them.

See you in another couple of months (or less!). Peace.

Nervous Breakdown #17 (thousand, that is)

So planning a wedding in 5.5 months sounds insane to most people, especially those who change their mind a lot or want a humongo princess extravaganza wedding a la Bridezilla and made-for-tv movies. But it's worked so far for yours truly. Except for the snafu with the BM dresses and the awful hot pink (total 80's style) color, or maybe when my printer told me that my invitations were printed but that he hadn't ordered some of the plain paper for the back layer and so I'd have to wait until it came in via UPS. OK, deep breaths. But in reality I have a dress and some friends who are willing to stand up with me while I marry the man I love so what more do I need. Beware the wedding beast lest it suck you in to the materialistic and over-the-top culture that it thrives on! No wonder people spend thousand upon thousands of dollars on these things every year....there is so much potential to go overboard. Flowers and stationary and dresses and veils and tuxes and reception halls and decorations and linens and china and 3 course meals and dj's and...and...and....yuck. There is so much potential to be so selfish with all of the details, because this is MY day and MY wedding and I only get to do this once so I'd better make the most of it, right? But what about God's day and celebrating Scott and I's oneness in Him and pointing all this stuff back for His glory? Where does that all fit into the commercialism? Maybe it doesn't. But I can have a different kind of wedding, one that shows where my heart wants to be and celebrates the union in His presence. Not that I don't want a huge extravaganza (what honest female can deny that??), but the most important thing is celebrating the day that God had laid out for Scott and I since before birth, and thanking Him for a most wonderful gift; that of love, companionship, and a best friend to walk through life with.

Oh, and one more thing

March III seems to be a popular day for weddings...I know of 2 other couples that are getting married on that day as well! So I guess that cuts down our guest list a little. :)

Bad blogger, bad.

So I've been a terrible blogger lately. Guess that's what happens when you get engaged. :) Anyways, wedding plans and work take up most of my time, with a lot of Scott and a little Bible study and friend time mixed in.

So 3 March is the day, L-town is the place. We have a church, a reception hall, a photographer, a caterer, a cake baker, wedding bands, a gorgeous white dress, and the bridesmaids dresses are in the mail (thanks Nordstroms!). And I'm pretty sure that by weekend's end we'll have a DJ. And I talked flowers tonight, so that's on its way to completion as well. Next up, invitations and tux selection! Woo-hoo. I love this stuff~ it's so much fun to look at all the options and pick whatever I like the best. It's the one time that it's acceptable to spoil yourself a little by getting exactly what you want. Nice. I'm trying to think of something else to write, but honestly this is just too exciting and big for me. So I guess that's it. Later.

Short and Very Sweet

Just so I can say you heard it here first. Although if you already knew, that's cool too. Yay, I'm engaged!!

Once again back in the state

So I went to Colorado for the weekend for a wedding and a hike throught Rocky Mountain National Park. Two of my co-counselors got married out in Eagle and Scott and I drove out to witness the event. It was so, so great to see everyone from Eagle Lake again! I miss everyone out there~ those relationships were really special and catching up this weekend was nice. And the wedding was beautiful....mountain outdoors, great weather, and the bridesmaids dresses were different colors of the same dress, which turned out really great.

Rocky Mountain National Park was amazing. Scott and I had decided to hike across the whole park so we took the North Inlet trail from Grand Lake on the west side over to Bear Lake on the east. It's somewhere around 17 miles across: almost 10 the first day (to July campsite) and maybe 7 the next. We left around 12:30 on Sunday and got to the campsite around 6. Man, I was tired! The elevation gain got me a little bit. We cooked our pizza dinner and got inside the tent to get out of the cold wind coming down from the mountain. We were camped just under treeline so it was a little cold. But the wind died down by morning so breakfast was fine. We saw 5 bull elk less than 50 feet away on our hike on Monday morning as we were headed up toward Flattop Mountain. Cool. The hike was nice; weather was clear and warm and we didn't run into too many people until Flattop. The hike down was the best part of the hike scenery-wise as we got great views of Longs Peak, Emerald Lake from straight above it, and 180+ degree panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Gorgeous.

Anyways, I could write more but I'm really tired and a little sore and just a smidge sunburned so I'm going to bed. Suffice it to say that it was a great trip. 'Night.

Bike Trails

I've been riding my bike around Lincoln in an effort to use less petrol and thus decrease emissions and my impact on the environment. And I'm also cheap. So check out the trails map and try walking/biking/running/blading etc to your destination. There are also new bike lanes on 14th and 11th Streets, so check them out too. Peace.
